About Donor Embryo Replacement

Donor Embryo Replacement is a form of third party reproduction. If a couple has remaining embryos after in vitro fertilization (IVF), they may choose to donate them to either another person or couple for implantation.

The donated embryos are then placed into the uterus of the woman who was unable to naturally or artificially develop her own embryos.

The donated embryos can be either “fresh” from fertilized egg cells of the same menstrual cycle, or “frozen”, that is they have been generated in a preceding cycle and undergone embryo cryopreservation, and are thawed just prior to the transfer, known as frozen embryo transfer (FET).

About Donor Embryo Replacement

Embryo donation occurs when a patient or couple donates remaining embryos from a successful IVF cycle to another patient or couple, so that the recipients can have a baby of their own. The embryos are transferred to the recipient mother’s uterus.

Donors go through an extensive screening process before they are able to donate their embryos. Screening factors include patient’s psychological readiness to make a donation, family genetic history and age of the female donor. The egg donor’s age must have been 39 or younger at the time when the embryos developed.

Recipients of donated embryos will learn characteristics about the donor such as height, eye color, hair color, blood type, and genetic history.

Dr. Trolice and the staff are amazing and the level of care is outstanding, they really take their time to get to know you and follow every step of the process. They help me complete my amazing family. I recommend them to everyone!”
